Rebecca Comments: My name is Rebecca. My brother, SSGT Harold D. Ghumm, was killed in Beirut in 1983. I would like to do more research on my brother and do a memorabilia. Did you know him? Do you know anyone who knew him that maybe willing to talk to me about him. I know they are doing a memorial in Oct. but there is no way we can come we just can't afford it. The last time I was at his burial (site) was the day they buried him. His wife wanted him to be buried there so we went with her blessings and now she has moved away with his 3 children and doesn't keep in touch. My brother left home when I was very young. I am his baby sister, the baby of 9. Harold was the oldest . Harold was going to come home and see his baby sister graduate in 1984 which never happened. I just want to know about him. Was he a good Marine? Did people look up to him? Does he have friends that was stationed with, still alive? All I know is that he died for this country and left 3 beautiful children behind, including his family. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him and wish to God he would walk in the door. I have an 11 year old son which looks a lot like Harold and wish Harold could of met him. Please if you know of anything or anyone that might have info. Please let me know. I wish there would be someway we could come to the services so maybe I could find out more. I live in Billings, Missouri. It would be a 2 day drive and there is no way my family could do that, but I know my prayers will be with Harold and all the other servicemen who died just like my prayers are with them every year.
