Written by John Oliver, April 1, 2003 in an E-mail to Joan Muffler:

I regret that time and distance is eroding away at some of the more intimate and specific details. Some things are getting blurred and muffled. Something's are getting mixed together. Regardless, I shall never forget any of Them, or what happened that day--for the pain, anguish and the emptiness of the tragic loss does not erode nor lessen. But the old wounds that were opened, now need to heal up again, as best they will. I have learned that whereas sometimes we stand alone in some battles, especially those within ourselves, there is always someone else there on that same battlefield. We are never truly alone, it just seems that way. So it is, that we each fight our battles, in our own ways, alone or together...but towards the same end, the same goals. Everyone on the battlefield is fighting for their own survival, their own reasons and beliefs. But at the same time they are fighting for the person next to them, for their survival and cause. We fight so hard and so much not for ourselves, but for our Brothers in Arms, because we know, we understand that, without him, without each other, we are that many less, that much weaker and that we cannot win the battle by ourselves. And when that Brother has fallen, we are driven to fight even harder...to avenge and honor him, as well to make up for the loss in our ranks.
